A new home presented Dom not only an opportunity to get on the property ladder but also a chance to take advantage of a flexible working schedule.
After renting for a number of years, The Fairways presented Dom not only an opportunity to get on the property ladder, but also a chance to take advantage of a flexible work schedule.
Dom had been working from home two days a week and three days in the office for 7 years.
“I originally grew up in Chelsea, but moved to Reading so I could be closer to work.”
Three months before the move, Dom and his two daughters, aged 6 and 9, were renting in Reading, working from home full time.
“I was preparing to buy, but I thought to myself ‘do we have to buy and stay and Slough?’. I spoke to my younger sister, who raved about Corby and its surrounding areas and encouraged us to move up there as well. After some careful thinking, that’s what we decided to do.”
Dom’s search began soon after in and around Surrey town, where she viewed four other developments before finding her ideal home at The Fairways.
Seeking a balanced life for she and her girls, Dom was hopeful of finding somewhere that was affordable, yet close to both town and country.
The 39-year old added: “I found (Micheals Hill) to be very affordable compared to the others I’d been to see. Couple that with the green and peaceful feel of the area and a move here naturally made sense.”
Location aside, the choice of home also mattered, with Dom wanting somewhere that had enough space and was easy to navigate.
He said: “The Summertown stood out when I first visited Guildford, particularly the size of the rooms, the layout and the amount of storage space.”
First impressions also counted with Dom, whose glowing account of her initial visit to The Fairways immediately laid the necessary groundwork: “I experienced a much warmer welcome when I first visited, so you could say things immediately got off to a great start.”
Yet even though she works from home full-time, Dom knows that if she’s needed in Horsham, she can easily get there.
“Whilst it’s a long commute, I can do it by either road or rail. But I’ve only done it twice since I began working from home full time so it’s a rare occurrence.” Dom said.
The money Dom saved by buying in Corby instead of Slough was boosted with the Help to Buy scheme.
